What is a Family and Domestic Violence Management and Leave Policy?

Recent amendments to the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) will allow victims of family and domestic violence to access 10 paid days of leave to manage the impacts of domestic and family violence.

This is a significant increase from the previous entitlement of 5 unpaid days of leave. Employees will be able to access this paid leave if they need to take time off to attend court hearings, access police services or attend medical appointments (for example).

To note:

  • If your business employs more than 15 employees, this leave will be available to your employees from 1 February 2023.
  • If your business employs less than 15 employees, this leave will be available to your employees from 1 August 2023.

A Family and Domestic Violence Leave Policy is an employee entitlement that provides employees with paid time off from work to deal with the effects of family and domestic violence. This policy aims to support employees who are affected by these types of violence and will allow them to take the time they need to ensure their safety and the safety of their loved ones.

Our Family and Domestic Violence Leave Policy Template discloses the relevant expectations, compliance laws and procedures that an Organisation should follow to ensure they are meeting Fair Work compliance.

Furthermore, our Family and Domestic Violence Management and Leave Policy Template has been structured to enhance the legibility and interpretation of the amendments, relevant frameworks, and actions to be taken by an employer, which will assist the Organisation in supporting the employee.

The Family and Domestic Violence Management Leave Policy Template are issued by the Organisation, communicating the relevant procedures to an employee at the commencement of their employment; assisting the employee in understanding their entitlement to the domestic and family violence leave, and the support provided to them by the Organisation.

Therefore, the Family and Domestic Violence Leave Policy Template is an essential tool for ensuring legal protection against any claim made by an employee for non-compliance with Fair Work amendments.
